Open Cell Spray Foam Insulation
Breathable yet airtight preventing harmfull damp and mould
Open cell spray foam insulation contain tiny air pockets that are not completely closed which traps air and inhibits the transfer of heat. It creates an excellent breathable air barrier but doesn't provide any type of water vapor barrier as water vapour pass through the foam to the air space beyond where an air gap removes the water vapour.
Open cell spray foam therefore is a breathable airtight insulation as only water vapour and not the warm air escapes . Open cell is also used within interior walls and floors because of its sound reduction qualities. Open cell is less expensive than closed cell but is not recommended for outdoor applications.
Breathable Vent Card
Part L of the Irish Building Standards on the Conservation of Fuel and Energy in Dwellings stipulate that a 50mm air gap must be maintained between your insulation material and the roofing felt. Applying a breathable vent card removes this problem. The vent card is only needed when open cell spray foam is used, as closed cell foam is not "Breathable" and is under no circumstances to be used in home insulation.
We use CPI E- Zero 500 open cell spray foam insulation combined with the unique CPI breathable vent card system. E-Zero 500 is NSAI Agrément certified and is CE marked.
